Richard Simpson, leads rival Gene Schattschneider at Algona Raceway when took they tops off.
What a shot! Two of the legends of Kossuth County racing go toe-to-toe. Simpson, smooth and calculating, out in front of charging Schattschneider.
When Simpson recently found the photo, he commented, “I can’t believe I was leading.” And then laughed, “I didn’t think I ever beat him.”
The records show that both earned their share of trophies. Both are inductees in the Kossuth County Racing Hall of Fame.

Out of curiosity, when was this photo taken?
Not exactly sure but probably 1970-1972. I think that is when the “convertibles” raced at Algona.
